Thomas J. Broughton III of Apalachin Thomas J. Broughton III, 58, of Apalachin, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 27, 2008, vacationing with family and friends. He was born on March 30th, 1950 in Johnson City, N.Y. He grew up in Apalachin, N.Y., a graduate of Vestal High School. He was a Vietnam War veteran with the United States Army, 1st Calvary Division, having received many medals including three Purple Hearts. He has been a dedicated employee of IBM/EIT for the past 26 years. He was recently predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years, Leslie K. Broughton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann (Bezosky) and Thomas J. Broughton Jr.; and his aunts, Elizabeth and Helen Broughton. Thomas is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Michael K. Macinski and Angie Sanger, Boston, Mass., Matthew K. Macinski and Tamara Huling, Endicott, Marcus J. and Trista Broughton, Owego; seven grandchildren, Kacey Lee, Christopher, Marcus Anthony, Madison Patricia, Makayla, Kiah and Shea Leslie; sisters, Donna Clifford, Endicott, Lynn Burdick, Niceville, Florida; niece and family, Lisa and Chris Brink, with great-nephew, Liam Christopher Brink, Minneapolis, Minnesota; cousins, Linda and Ken Bobzin, Casa Grande, Arizona; mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Jeff Chamberlin, Apalachin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kent and Suzanne Chamberlin, Sammamish, Wash., Stacie and Dennis Rapp, Charlotte, N.C., Jan and Jerry Harmon, Friendsville, Pa., and Lisa and James Walter, Warren Center, Pa.; close friends, Lisa Rung and children, Seth and Marissa; also several cousins. Tom, or "Tommy" to those who were closest to him, along with his wife, were lifelong New York Giants and NASCAR fans, even having spent his final days watching his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, wearing his New York Giants Superbowl Champions hat. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, son, relative and friend, providing everything he could and providing some things he could not to all of his family. It would be no surprise to find out that Tom had gone and taken care of something that needed to be taken care of without ever letting anybody know. Never looking for recognition in any way, just quietly doing the right thing. He was a very special person in life and even more so in death who will be missed everyday by everybody who knew him. Tom and Leslie are now together, eternally in Heaven, as they were here on earth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 157 Clark Street, Vestal. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his honor may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
