HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Thomas J. Barton III, 47, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. He resided on River Street in Hoosick Falls with his wife Andrea L. (Capron) Barton and Andrea’s grandmother, Lida “Gram” Rand, who held a special place in his heart.Tom was born on Sept. 9, 1959, in Troy, son of Thomas J. and Beverly (Salisbury) Barton Jr. of Johnsonville. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and attended Annhurst College in Woodstock, Conn. Tom was raised on the family dairy farm and began his work life on dairy farms in New York, Vermont and Virginia as a herdsman. Farming was always his passion, as evidenced by his goats, chickens and flowers where ever he lived. He then was employed at the Burger King in Bennington as an assistant manager, as an insurance representative for Prudential Insurance, a truck driver/delivery person for the Schwann Food Company and assistant manager for Rite-Aid in Hoosick Falls. Tom was most recently employed as the manager of the Dollar General Store in Cambridge. He loved baseball and was a devoted Yankees fan. Tom was a former member of the Johnsonville Fire Department and was a District Fire Commissioner. Tom was recently elected as a Village Trustee for Hoosick Falls.Survivors other than his wife, Andrea and parents Thomas Jr. and Beverly, include his stepson Ryan D. Sweet; sister Joan Buvarsky of Brooklyn, Conn.; brothers, Joseph (Lynn) Barton, William Barton, Robert Barton and Donald (Jen) Barton all of Johnsonville, his brother-in-law Bryon Capron, nieces and nephews Joseph (Jen) Barton, Corey, Kelci Barton and Kayla Capron, his aunts and uncles Alice Tate, Harriet Spiezio (Richard), Nancy Renner (James), Kathryn Washburn (Robert), Linda Salisbury, Karen Ruhle (James), Kenneth Salisbury (Cheryl), James Salisbury (Arlene), Norman Salisbury (Ann), Douglas Salisbury (Doris), Thomas Salisbury (Deborah), Richard Salisbury (Janet)and Timothy Salisbury (Linda); Andreas grandmother, Ruth Patch of Northfield, Vt.; he is also survived by many cousins. Tom is predeceased by an uncle, Gerald Barton; aunt, Geraldine Barton; grandparents, Thomas and Mary Barton; and Cora Salisbury, and brother-in-law, Michael Buvarsky.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. John’s Cemetery in Schaghticoke, N.Y.Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the H.A.P.P.Y. organization through the funeral home. This is a community coalition, whose mission is to create a safe alcohol and drug free environment for the youth.
