April 20, 2005 Thomas F. Hurley, 82, of Camillus, died Wednesday at his home in Largo, FL. He graduated from St. John the Baptist High School. Tom was a WWII veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He re-tired in 1980 as a detective sergeant after 35 years of service with the Syracuse Police Department. During his career, Tom received many commendations, including The Hendricks Medal of Honor. He was a member of the Pastime Athletic Club and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, friends in Florida, Popes Grove, and watching the Yankees. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years, Mary Theresa Mahan Hurley, and his brother, William Hurley. Surviving are two daughters, Anne (Don) Scholl and Mary Jane (Gary) Lowery; two sons, Christopher (Patricia) Hurley and Thomas (Deborah) Hurley; grandchildren, Christopher, James, Shawn and Kelly Hurley, Mary and Alison Scholl, and Colleen and Daniel Lowery; his sister, Kathryn West. Services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Camillus. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Calling hours will be today 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association. Edward J. Ryan & Son Inc.
