Jefferson - Thomas Marion Bryan II died early Thursday morning at his home in Jefferson, GA.He was born in Athens, GA on October 18, 1927 to Mildred Southworth and Morris Marion Bryan. He was educated in Jefferson and graduated from the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.He served with distinction in the US Navy. After the war ended, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a degree in Textile Engineering in 1950. After graduation, he joined his other family members at the Jefferson Mills. He served in various capacities including the Millís President when it was sold in 1990. He was named to Georgia Techís Engineering Hall of Fame.At the First Baptist Church of Jefferson he was treasurer for many years, as well as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and trustee.The Jefferson Rotary Club was of special interest. He joined in 1951, was its president in 1956-57 and went on to enjoy many years on the Georgia Rotary Student Program Board and was named Will Watt and Paul Harris Fellows.The Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson was a significant part of his life for 50 years. He also worked with the Tumbling Waters Group, the Historical Commission, the committee to investigate the new courthouse, the Jefferson City School Foundation, and the Jefferson Library board.Brenau University, Gainesville honored him for his years of service on its board of trustees with the Margaret Sullivan and Distinguished Service awards.He served his industry as President of the Textile Education Foundation and of the Georgia Textile Manufacturers Association.He was on the original Jackson County Chamber of Commerce board and served for ten years on the BJC Hospital Authority.He served on the board at the First Commerce Bank.He volunteered as a tutor at the Potters House and at the Loren Smith Cancer Center.He is survived by his wife of 53 years Stookie, his four children Tom & Julie Bryan of Salinas, CA, Jim & Renee Bryan of Jefferson, GA, Lee & Susie Bryan of Rome, GA and Ben & Molly Frost of Marietta, GA and nine grandchildren.Visitation is planned for Sunday, Nov. 13 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home, 1350 Winder Highway, Jefferson. Memorial Service and reception will be held on Monday, Nov. 14 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, 246 Washington St.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jefferson School System Foundation (575 Washington Street, Jefferson, GA 30549) or St. Maryís Hospice (P.O. Box 658, Athens, GA 30604).
