COX-BURNS, Thelma Jane, 77, went home to be with the Lord August 23, 2007. Her sunrise was April 7, 1930. She was born to Rhudel and Beatrice Rodgers Cox of Connersville, Ind. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, William (Bill) and James H. Cox; two husbands, Thaddeus H. Leavell and Robert Kiser; and one grandchild, Christopher P. Jones. She leaves behind a son, Larry Jo Leavell and wife, Cynthia (Kokomo); a brother, Perry Cox; a sister, Jacqueline S. Cox- McCarroll; four grandchildren, Damon, Bre-Anne, Vernecia, and Vetassha; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, but above all, she is our last matriarch of the Cox family. Thelma retired from the State of Indiana after serving three gubernatorial terms as the Governor' s Mansion Chief Staff Manager. Prior to that, she traveled extensively throughout the world and lived in Turkey for eight years. She was a two time survivor of breast cancer and served as a counselor and spokesperson for the American Cancer Society to new breast cancer victims. She was a member of United Community Church of Sun City Center and was well known for the bright smile and always donning a red garment or hat. Thelma will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to come into her acquaintance. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, with family and friends to gather one hour prior to service at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon, Fla., ((813) 689-8121
