PETERS _ Terry On Thursday, November 25, 2004, Terence Charles Peters passed away at 60 years of age, after a valiant battle with cancer. Throughout Terry's life his family was most important, he valued them more than anything in the world. He forever thought of his family before himself, his wife Lyla; children, Jennifer (Charles) Tillman, Kirsten, Ryan (Alex), Suzanne; granddaughters, Maryjane, Julia, and Isabelle. Terry was the youngest child of the late Isabella Peters. He had five older siblings each of which he respected and loved so much. Predeceased by his brother Doug (Vicki); survived by Gordon (Donnie), Rita and her late husband Jack, Keith (Ruth), Ross (Lorraine), and numerous nieces and nephews. Terry was born and raised in Melfort, Saskatchewan. He had many fond memories of growing up in a small prairie town. Terry spent most of his time exploring the "Land of the Living Skies", with his best friends: Byron Turner, Kim McShane and the late Richard Koopman. Throughout Terry's teen years he had a passion for team sports, especially basketball. His rural roots played an important part in molding his outlook on what was important in life, the simple things. Some of which are: family, friends, honesty, optimism, simplicity and nature. After high school Terry moved to Saskatoon to attend Teachers' College. He met his wife to be at a sporting function at Regina Teachers' College. It was love at first sight. In 1965 Lyla and Terry married in Saskatoon near the university campus. A couple of years later they piled their belongings into their little white Cortina and headed West to Calgary. Terry began his teaching career with the Calgary Board of Education where he touched the lives of students, teachers and parents for over thirty years. With his wife and children Terry resided in Dalhousie for thirty-three years. He spent much time tending the yard and visiting with his wonderful neighbours. Even though Terry devoted much of his life to his teaching career there was always time for his wife and family. Every summer Terry took his family to Buena Vista, Saskatchewan. It was a place that was close to his heart. He loved driving slowly on the gravel roads, the turtles in the ravine, the pelicans soaring, taking long walks and visiting with special friends. We'll love you forever, We'll like you for always, as long as we're living our Husband, Dad, and Papa you'll be! The family wishes to express special thanks to the incredible staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Dr. Galloway, Dr. Murray, Dr. Pereira, Tanya, Andrea, Ian, Melissa, Iffat, Erin, Leslie, Carla, Vladim, Stefanie, Tracy, Terry and Mary. The strength, warmth, compassion and support given to Terry and his family will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Terry's life will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in Terry and Lyla's backyard, 20 Dalhurst Place N.W. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Centre (Unit 47) at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1403 - 29 Street N.W.
