Dr. Thomas F.X. Casey, 74, of Garnerville, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2009 surrounded by his family at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was born on September 1, 1935 to Edna Turnier and Thomas F. Casey in Manhattan, NY. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Nancy Dolan Casey. He is also survived by his three daughters and their husbands and nine grandchildren, who all loved him dearly: Claudia Casey and Kevin Silk and their children Tommy, Michael and Annie of Fairfield, CT. Justine Casey and Ted Gaeta and their children Caroline, Christopher and Nicholas of West Harrison, NY. Melissa Casey and Jason Young and their children William, Hanna and Sam of Larchmont, NY. Tom is also survived by his extended family: Len and Pat Moss, Judy and Bill Dobbins, Christine Favus, Diane and John Farrell and many nieces and nephews. Tom received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Fordham University and an Honorary Doctorate from Dominican College in 1999. Tom started his teaching career at Saint Helena High School in the Bronx and went on to have a forty-one year career as a teacher and an administrator in the North Rockland School District. Tom was an active member of the Rockland community, lending his time and knowledge to many endeavors. Tom was the the Historian of the Town of Haverstraw since 1973 and appointed the title of official Historian of the County of Rockland since 1977 . He was President of the Board of the Kings Daughter's Public Library, past president and Senior Historian of the Historical Society of Rockland County. He was also the Chairman of the Rockland County Preservation Board. The family will receive friends on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the George M. Holt Funeral Home in Haverstraw. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, December 10, at 10:15 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. Burial will follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Historical Society of Rockland County or the Kings Daughter's Library. Tom was supported in his life and in his illness by many dear and cherished friends. We will miss him everyday. GEORGE M.
