THOMAS DRAKE SAMFORD, IIIServices for Thomas Drake Samford, III, 69, of Opelika, Alabama, will be held on Monday, August 11, 2003. Interment will be at Rosemere Ce-metery, in Opelika, at 11:30 a.m., for family and any friends who may desire to attend. A memorial ser-vice will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Opelika at 2:00 p.m. Revs. Earl Ballard, Mike Ro-berts, and Walter Albritton will offi-ciate. Visitation will take place in Trinity's Fellowship Hall following the service.Mr. Samford, who died on Friday, August, 8, 2003, at his home in Ope-lika, was born there on March 4, 1934, the son of Thomas Drake Samford, Jr., and Aileen Maxwell Samford. Following graduation from Princeton University, he served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1961, he graduated from law school at the University of Ala-bama and returned to Opelika, where he practiced law, was active in civic affairs, and served as Muni-cipal Judge for 27 years.Mr. Samford served as an attorney for Auburn University from 1961 until his death, serving as General Counsel from 1965 until his retire-ment in 1995, and continuing to be active as General Counsel Emeritus. He was actively involved with Trinity UMC, teaching the Inquirers Sunday School Class and singing in mul-tiple choirs.Mr. Samford is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jacqueline (Jac-kie) Samford, Opelika; his devoted children: Thomas Drake Samford, IV (Janice), Montgomery; Lynn Samford Fargason (John), Birming-ham; Robert Maxwell Samford (Joy), Opelika; and Richard Drake Samford (Debra), Opelika; grand-children: Jennifer, Lauren, and Heather Samford, Montgomery; Justin and Luke Fargason, Birming-ham; Amanda, Chase, and Clay Samford, Opelika; Drake and Mary Whitten Samford, Corey Lemke, and Colt Perryman, Opelika; a great-grandson, Anthony Morgan, Montgomery; a brother, William J.
