Susie Mae Evans - METTER - Susie M. Evans, 78, of Metter died Thursday, October 7, 2010 in the Candler County Hospital after a brief illness. The Jenkins County native was the daughter of the late Carrie Wright and Bubba Gainer. She attended the public schools of Jenkins County. In 1949, she married Willie Edward Evans. They moved to Miami, Florida in 1955. For many years, she worked as a chef for several prominent doctors and celebrities in the Miami area, including Anita Bryant. She returned to Georgia in 1983 and made her home in Metter. Mrs. Evans joined Jones Temple Baptist Church in Garfield where she was a member of the choir. She was employed by Mrs. Evelyn F. Warren of Metter for fourteen years prior to her retiring. Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, John H. Evans of Miami, FL, Willie and Glynder Evans of Bronx, NY; one brother, Wallace Gainer of Metter; six sisters, Martha Mikell of Nevils, Annie Fulcher of Coco Beach, FL, Sarah Cotman, Lillie Smith and Annie Ruth Griffin all of Metter and Mary Jackson of Atlanta; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Mikell of Nevils and Jerry Evans of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three godsons, John W. Evans of Savannah, Anthony Evans and Danny James both of Miami, FL; one goddaughter, Mary Smith of Metter; dear and faithful friends, Evelyn F. Warren and family; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16, at Jones Temple Baptist Church, Herndon Community, Jenkins County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
