ALTON - Susan L. (Slauenwhite) Allen, 57, formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully June 6, 2008, at her home after a devastating diagnosis of colon cancer in February. Sue was predeceased by her husband of 32 wonderful years, Clifford J. Allen Sr. They started their journey together with McDonald's coupons and 67 cents for gasoline and created a successful business. She was the daughter of the late James C. Slauenwhite and is survived by her mother, Dorothy J. Slauenwhite. Sue was born July 12, 1950, in Nova Scotia and lived every minute of her life to the fullest. Sue not only enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning, but shared her delicious meals and recipes with friends and family. She loved entertaining and making everyone feel right at home. Sue led a very fun and active life and regardless if it was work or play, put her whole heart into whatever she was doing. She adored her cats and sadly leaves behind "Lucky." She loved fishing trips, playing poker, was often called Texas Sue, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. She received her real estate license at the age of 22. She was a terrific "stepmom" to Judy, Linda, Cliff Jr., Diane, George, Tim and Jeanne; and a good friend to their mom, Annie. She made many wonderful memories with each of them and their families. She was called "Grammie Sue" by 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Sue was fortunate enough to have found life and love again when she met Aubrey Engstrom. The joy was brought back into her life for three special years as he and his family lovingly welcomed her into their hearts. She will be sadly missed by Aubrey Jr., Annette, Scott, Brian, "Aunti Phyllis" and their families. Sue is survived by many wonderful family members, two brothers, Frank and his wife, Sylvi and David and his wife, Deb; sister-in-law, Judith; four nephews and one niece, Ben, Laura, Tyler and Colin; one great-niece, Bri; one great-nephew, Brandon; three aunts, Mary, Frances and Freda; special "sister," Clara Higgins; sisters-in-law, Kathleen, Carolyn and Phyllis; and brother-in-law, Gerald. Sue was recently predeceased by a favorite brother-in-law, Kelly. Also surviving are Kelly's wife, Dottie; a special nephew, Kelly Jr.; many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind lifelong heart-broken friends, Linda and Deane Webster, Norman Barriault and Florence, Sue Berger, Mark and Kristie Slauenwhite, Ken and Laura Baillerian, Bea Gallant and many, many more. Special thanks to dear friends, Roger and Joanne Burnham, Steve and Gloria Martin for all their love and "nurturing," Helen Cox for the super care she gave to Sue and last but certainly not least Jamie, Erin, Dolly and Kaileen from Hospice. They made this so much easier for us and we could not have done it without them. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson officiating. Burial will be at Hudson Cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, Sue has asked for donations to be made in her name to Bangor Area Visiting Nurses, Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
