ALLEN Susan F. Allen, age 57, of Stratford, wife of the late Ronald J. Allen, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Elizabeth, NJ the daughter of Anna Pennachio of Katonah, NY and the late Francis Pennachio, she had been a Stratford resident since 1983. She was a graduate of Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and later received her BS in Nursing from Fairfield University. Susan was currently employed as a nurse at Fairfield University and also worked at St. Vincent's Medical Center in the Oncology and Infusion Centers. In May 2011 she received the Florence Nightingale Award at St. Vincent's Medical Center for outstanding and dedicated nursing. Susan loved the arts, gardening, camping, traveling, and spending time at the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield. Susan was excited about becoming a grandmother for the first time, and while she will not be present for that event, her family knows in their heart she will be their in spirit. Survivors in addition to her mother, Anna include four beloved children, Heather Burkett and her husband Owen of Methuen, MA, Justin T. Allen of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah Marie Allen and fiancée Meredith Roberto of Black Rock and Christopher S. Allen of Oakland, CA; a brother, Nicholas Pennachio and his wife Carin and nephew Joshua of Somers, NY; a sister, Mary Pennachio of Wingdale, NY; her best friend Cathy Caulfield of Fairfield; a close family friend, Scott Penziner; and her beloved dog, Oreo and parrot, Albert. A celebration of Susan's life will be held Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church Congregational 148 Beach Road, Fairfield with the Rev. David Spollett officiating. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
