Stephen Michael Hendricks - PALM HARBOR, FL - Stephen Michael Hendricks of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away September 7, 2010. Born in Savannah, Georgia July 21, 1952.He was preceded in death by his father, M.C. Hendricks. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Charlotte, and his two sons, Cuyler and Christopher. He also leaves his mother, Gloria Hendricks, two brothers, Charles Hendricks (Sarah) , Mark Hendricks, and sister, Anne Alderman (Jim), sister-in-law, Sandra Spoto (Ed), mother-in-law (Martha Long), his uncle, Carl Hendricks (Sequel), four nephews and four nieces He attended Chatham County schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1970 where he played on the state championship level football team as a lineman. He then attended Armstrong State College where he graduated with a Political Science degree. While at Armstrong, he was a charter member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Stephen later received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. Prior to his death, he obtained his certification as a Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute. Stephen has worked in the computer software management field for 34 years. He started his career with the City if Savannah and has been a software manager/vice president for Martin Marietta, PowerCerv, Best, Q-Link, and Adobe Computer Systems. He also taught college level courses in computer programming while living in Orlando, Florida. He has shown leadership skills and patriotism throughout his life. At the age of eighteen, he was honored by the City of Savannah for saving the life of a young off-duty police officer. Stephen was a YMCA Indian Guide Program Chief during his sons' elementary school years. He served as an elder at the St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church while living in Orlando, Florida and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor until his death. He served as a member of the Confederate Memorial Committee of Savannah .He was also a member of the Coastal Conservation Association in Palm Harbor, Florida .Stephen was well-known and loved for his wonderful sense of humor and generosity toward all. In Savannah, Stephen was known as" Bear" and in Palm Harbor as the "Snapper King". Stephen's love of fishing was shared with all that knew him. He taught many people, young and old , the joy of fishing. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor, 2021 Nebraska Avenue. A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 12, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor or SunCoast Hospice.
