August 9, 1944 ~ December 16, 2011It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of a legend in his own time, Stanley James Carter (Chebortnick). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Stan passed away, peacefully, at the home with his family by his side.Stan grew up in Steveston, where he embraced a strong love for the sea, becoming a commercial fisher and a tow boat operator most of his life. He moved to Port Alberni in the 80's to be closer to family and to enjoy fishing and hunting.Stan is survived by his loving wife Joanna, brother Mike (Yvette), son Rick, daughters; Barb (Josh), Marnie (Sam) and Laura, 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Stan was a "larger than life" character and became a legend up and down the coast of B.C. over his career. He will be greatly missed.The family would like to invite all Stan's family and friends to join us in a celebration of his life, barbecue and social on Sat. August 11, 2012 at 2pm, at the family home.In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Stan's name to Home and Community Care, Home Care Nursing, Port Alberni for the purchase of a portable oximeter.
