Sister Regina Angela Casey, a native of the Bronx, died in the Sisters' infirmary on January 27, 2009 at the age of 99. Born on July 11, 1909 she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart on December 8, 1929, was professed in 1932 and pronounced final vows in 1937. Until official retirement in 1988 Sister dedicated many years to the field of education, which included elementary and high school, serving in New York and New Jersey. Her teaching career began in St. Anthony's in Butler, NJ until 1949. She taught in our schools in Verplanck, Croton, Cold Spring, Yorktown Heights, Peekskill and St. Joseph's High School in Manhattan. She was also librarian at Franciscan High School in Mohegan Lake from 1986-1988. She then officially retired from the school system. However, she devoted the next five years to tutoring part-time at Mt. St. Francis. Having been one of eight children, Sister is survived by many nieces and nephews. The wake will be held at Mt. St. Francis Convent on Thursday and Friday from 2-8 p.m. with a Liturgy on Friday at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the Sisters' cemetery.
