Shirley Smith, 57, of Anderson, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Hospice House in Anderson. She was born Oct. 25, 1945, inAnderson, to C.C. and Freda Smith. She was a former resident of Midland and Arlington, Texas. She graduated from Hanna High School in 1963 and attended Winthrop College. Shirley was an employee of Yarbrough Investment Group, and was dedicated to serving others through her work as a community volunteer. She participated in fund-raising activities for the Rape Crisis Center, Meals on Wheels and Hospice of the Upstate. She was an avid tennis player and golfer. She was an active member of Cardinal Racquet Club, the Electric City Shag Club, Anderson Sertoma Club, Anderson Junior League and Midland Junior League, and was a Board Member of the Rhythm and Blues Festival. She was a devoted member of Concord Baptist Church and the Singles' Sunday School Class. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Rodney Pruski, of Midland, Texas; and a son, Daniel (Danny) Charles Grainger, of Myrtle Beach, formally of Austin, Texas. In addition to her family, Shirley is survived by her mother, Freda Smith; her father, C.C. Smith, of Anderson; a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Elaine Smith, of Anderson; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Cris Bailey, of Anderson; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Skip Tiller, of Anderson; and nephews and nieces, David Smith, Kevin Smith, Jason Smith, Ryan Tiller, Brittany Bailey and Jenny Kindernay. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bob Marcaurelle. Tennis friends and shag club members are asked to serve as honorary escorts. The family will receive friends at Sullivan-King Mortuary Northeast Chapel, 3205 Highway 81 North, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Wednesday. The family is at the home of Jean and Cris Bailey, 110 Bradley Park, Anderson.
