ROBINSON--Shirley Brown, 89, of Southampton, New York, died January 28 in Portland, Oregon. Born July 4, 1921, "Brownie" was a descendant of Walter Rogers Burling, founder of many Long Island newspapers in the 1800's including the Southampton Press, which she published through the 1970's with her former husband William Read Robinson. She graduated from Southampton High School and Smith College class of 1943, and is survived by a son, Peter Burling Robinson, of Southampton; daughter Leslie Read Robinson Sharp and husband William Sharp of Portland, Oregon; and granddaughters Emily Dawson Sharp and Clair Burling Sharp of Washington state. No funeral services are planned; a memorial ceremony will take place later this year. Contributions would be appreciated to The Rogers Memorial Library or Peconic Land Trust of Southampton, New York.
