SHIRLEY MAE MITCHELL (NEE KISTLER) HOBART, IN Shirley Mae (nee Kistler) Mitchell of Hobart passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, John; eight children: Jeanette (nee Benjamin) Romano, Theresa (nee Benjamin) (Anthony) Taves, Carl (Kathy) Benjamin, Kirstain (nee Benjamin) (Ernest) Mayer, John (Deanna) Benjamin, Tammy (nee Mitchell) (Ken) Luketic, Scott (Melissa) Mitchell, and step-daughter Kathy (nee Mitchell) (Jason) Adams; one niece; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and step-daughter-in-law, Kathy Mitchell. She was preceded in death by parents: Charles and Mary Kistler; brother, Eugene (Arlene) Kistler and; stepson Kirk John Mitchell. Shirley was a graduate of Hammond Vocational Technical High School, Class of 1954. She was past Vice-President and Secretary of JSM Foods, Inc., d/b/a Zip Foods. As a young girl Shirley was involved in Adagio dancing with her brother and made many public performances throughout the Chicagoland region. In 1948, Shirley was the Indiana State roller skating couples dance champion. Her hobbies were bird watching and bingo. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN with Rev. John Starr officiating. Services will terminate at the funeral home with cremation following. Friends and relatives may visit with the family on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until time of service.
