Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister; 76 FITCHBURG -- Shirley A. (Leger) Richard, 76, of Fitchburg, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at Health Alliance-Leominster Hospital.Mrs. Richard was born in Fitchburg, July 20, 1935, the daughter of Emile and Alma (Gagnon) Leger, and was a lifelong resident of Fitchburg. She attended Fitchburg High School, and later attended Mount Wachusett Community College.She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gerard R. Richard; a son, Gerard E. Richard of Boston; a brother, J. Edward Leger of Fitchburg; three grandchildren, John Richard, Constance Richard, Kathryn Richard; two great-grandchildren, Jack Richard, Elise Richard; and dear friends, David Chavolla of Boston and Rose Ann Richard of Fitchburg. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins.In April 2011, she was predeceased by a son, Gary E. Richard of Worcester. She was also the sister of the late George Leger of Fitchburg.She enjoyed making trips to her son's home in York, Maine, crocheting, knitting, as well as the occasional trip to Mohegan Sun. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg.For six years, she worked as a jewelry sales clerk at Wal-Mart, retiring in 2000. Prior to that, she worked as the comptroller at Berkey Photo in Fitchburg, and was the first female manager at the Anwelt Shoe Company, also in Fitchburg.RICHARD -- A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 17th at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veteran's Cemetery, Winchendon.
