Sheldon Lawrence White, age 84, a resident of Voorhees, N.J., and formerly of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away peacefully Nov. 18, 2008. Sheldon was born on March 15, 1924, in Bronx, N.Y., to the late Harry White and the late Beatrice Feinberg White. He married his high school sweetheart, Miriam Oxfeld White, on June 12, 1943. Sadly, after 63 years together, Sheldon was pre-deceased by Miriam in November 2006. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1949, when he was discharged as a hospitalman first class. He was also a diver on the USS Florikan. During his years of service he earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, and China Service Medal. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Sheldon is survived by James White and wife Margie of Marlton, N.J., and Robert White and wife Joanne of Watertown, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Burg; his son-in-law, Dr. Howard Burg; his granddaughter, Mandy Burg; and his brother, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Emerald Coast Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
