SHARON J. SMITH SCHERERVILLE, IN Sharon J. Smith (nee Burkhert), age 65, of Schererville, passed away November 2, 2009. She is survived by her husband: Ken of 41 years; children: Cindy (Tom) Roderick of Merrillville and Bob (Kristen) Smith of Munster; grandchildren: Caleb, Zuzu, Ruby and Daphne; aunt and uncle: Richard and June Thomas; four brothers: Chuck Burkhert of AR, Bill (Martha) Burkhert, Dennis (Terri) Burkhert and Jim (Cori) Burkhert, all of Oregon. Also surviving are her cousins that were like sisters to her: Nancy (Dan) Simko, Lori (Scott) Allen, and Janet (Mike) Szymaszek; brother-in-law: Ted (late Linda) Smith of FL, sister-in-law Kathy (Wally) Jakubin of AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: Betty and Charles Burkhert; and in-laws: Art and Louise Smith. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9009 Kennedy Ave., Highland, IN with Rev. Arthur Burkman and Rev. Eric Kleinschmidt, officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. There will also be visitation at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until time of service. Sharon was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and involved in Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed cooking and baking, spending time with her family and traveling. Sharon had an outgoing personality and enjoyed life. Donations in Sharon's memory may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
