SALAMANCA - Sharon E. Wilson, 70, of Washington Street, died Tuesday evening (Jan. 8, 2013) at her home following a battle with ovarian cancer.Born on July 15, 1942, in Salamanca, she was a daughter of Wilma Hanson Waite of Salamanca. She was married July 1, 1983, to Mr. Gary Wilson, who survives.Mrs. Wilson had been employed in maintenance at the Salamanca Central High School for 25 years prior to her retirement. After retirement she went back to work as a toll booth operator at the Bradford, Pa., entrance to Allegany State Park.She had been a member of the former St. Michael's Lutheran in Little Valley. She was a member of the Sunday night couples' bowling league and the Thursday night ladies' bowling league. She loved reading, gardening and traveling.Surviving besides her husband and mother are four sons, Daniel (Kris) McCord of Veronia, Ore., Steve (Mary) McCord of Salamanca, Jay (Glenda Hartson) McCord of Steamburg and Paul (Kim Walters) McCord of Salamanca; a daughter, Cindy (Joe Baker) McCord of Fort Worth, Texas; two stepsons, Stephen (Gail) Wilson of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Kevin (Kendra) Wilson of Starks, La.; two stepdaughters, Gail (Ernest) Robinson of Bolivar and Susan Wilson of Salamanca; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Marcia (Monte) Van Buren of Washington Street, Salamanca, Sue (Jim) Scharf of Hancock Street, Salamanca, and Betsey Waite of Ward Street, Salamanca; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a brother, Wayne "Sonny" Waite.Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 11, 2013) in the United Congregational Methodist Church with Joshua Schallert, pastor, officiating.Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca.The family suggests memorials to Ovarian Cancer Research, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122.
