Untitled SARAH WILSON COX 1924 - 2010 Sarah Wilson Cox, 85, resident of Orange Park, FL died suddenly February 5, 2010. Mrs. Cox, the daughter of the late Arthur Redden Work and the late Lula Mae Fussell Work, was born in Dickson, TN on June 27, 1924. She grew up in Dickson and Highland Park, MI. She married the late James Hunter Cox on November 22, 1941 before he was sent to North Africa and Italy during WWII. In April of 1944 Sarah received notification from the War Department that James had been shot down while on a bombing mission near Budapest, Hungary and was listed as Missing-In-Action. Following a subsequent search, he was found to be a Prisoner-of-War at Stalag Luft IV located in Grosstechow, Poland. When James was in service, Sarah worked in the Defense Industry in Detroit, MI. While living on Highland Park, she was also a model for women's wedding gowns. They were married for 50 years until his death in 1991. Over the years she also worked for the U.S. Air Force Security Service at Lackland AFB, the Kelly AFB Base Exchange, and sold Avon products in San Antonio, TX. She and her family lived in many countries around the world. She was a member of Azalea Park United Methodist Church, American Ex-POW Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Sarah lived life as a beautiful testament to her grace, elegance and character. She was well loved by both family and friends and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and Carl Work, both of Dickson; four sisters, Annie Ruth Cain, Beulah Mai Martin, Helen Irene Register, and Mary Jane Anstine. She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey L. Cox of Orange Park, FL and James H. Cox, IV (Charlotte) of Pensacola; four grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Cox, II (Laura) of Orange Park, Gregory L. Cox of Orange Park, Billie Jo Wells of Lakeland, FL and Jamie Nicole Mitchell-Hayes (Chris) of Pensacola; five great-grandchildren, Falynn Dulac of Orange Park, Nicholas Wells of Lakeland, Emily Woodward and Eden Woodward, both of Lakeland, and Jacob Edwards of Pensacola. Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Friday, February 12, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
