Sandra Shirley Dillon (nee: Smith) , of Hearst Date of Death: March 12th, 2006 The funeral service for Jogues and Hearst resident Sandra Shirley (nee Smith) Dillon, 57, of Chalykoff St is to be held March 17 (Friday), 2006. She died March 12 at Notre-Dame Hospital from cancer. Born June 24, 1948 in Nobel, Parry Sound, she came to Hearst from London, Ont. in the autumn of 1968 as a country band singer for Rick and the Country Sounds playing the downtown Queen’s Hotel. After marriage to bush machine driver Laurent Dillon in August 1970, she worked at the Newaygo Forest Products mill in Mead, and later Levesque Plywood in Hearst until a spinal operation in 1994. A Hearst resident since August 2003, she was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and had resided at the hospital since November. A loving, caring, persevering, jovial and strong woman, she enjoyed singing – in particular the music of Loretta Lyne and Dolly Parton – fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and spending time with family. She was predeceased by husband Laurent in January 2005, her father Charles Smith in London in 1971, mother Josephine McQuabbie of Commanda in 1962, and a brother Sandy Smith in London in 1969. She leaves her daughter Angela (Michel) Chouinard of Hearst, sisters Susan (Kenneth) Elliot of Nipissing and Isabel (Joe) De Jeu of Dorchester, Ont., granddaughter Amanda and grandson Dillon Chouinard, 11 sisters-in-law, 10 brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Rev. Michael Burt is to direct the 4:30 p.m. service at New Life Assembly. Goddaughter Carly is to read the poem “Death – What a Wonderful Way to Explain It”. The duet “When I Get Where I’m Going”, as recorded by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, and “Because You Love Me” as recorded by Celine Dion will be played. Eulogies will be read by daughter Angela Chouinard and niece Brenda Roberts. Grandson Dillon Chouinard is to read a letter addressed to the deceased. Interment will be this spring at Sts-Martyrs-canadiens.Cemetery in Jogues. Commemorative donations may be made to the hospital’s palliative care service.
