Sandra Caldwell Utica Sandra Stevens Caldwell (nee Murphy), passed away January 28, 2011, in Utica, NY, after a long battle with diabetes and renal complications. Born in Talula, LA, on February 4, 1927, to Clarence and Maybelle Rose Murphy (nee Mercer) as Icymay Armenta Murphy, she grew up in Lake Charles, LA, and Long View, TX. The death of her mother and two year old sister, Louise, in 1931, put her in the care of her maternal grandmother, Serephe Isolona Figley (nee Russell). They moved to New Orleans, LA, in 1943, where Icymay changed her name to Sandra. There she met and married Robert Lysle Stevens of Bridgewater, NY, on New Year's Eve, 1945. Their only child, Donna Lynn Stevens, was born in Greensboro, NC, on February 21, 1947. Robert predeceased Sandy in 2004. They were divorced in 1973, and she married George Caldwell of Frankfort, NY, on July 16, 1974. George predeceased her in 1987 in Utica, NY. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Czupryna Pelow and Paul Pelow, Sandy leaves behind a granddaughter, Kirsten Anne Czupryna, and grandson-in-law, Naceur Belkhiria; cousin, George Russell, of Maryland; stepson, Mark Caldwell and his wife, Susan; stepdaughter, Andrea Smith (nee Caldwell); sister-in-law, Eleanor Williams (nee Stevens); many nieces; a nephew; and step-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial luncheon and Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 28, at 4 p.m. at Sweet Old Memories, Route 5, Vernon, NY.
