-> Sallie Mae James Williams, 88, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 in Valdosta, GA. She was a native of Jenkins County, Georgia. On October 16, 1932, she was married to Carroll Vasti Williams. After following defense work during World War II, they settled in Savannah, moving to Garden City in 1950 where they were residents for 52 years. Mrs. Williams was a supportive member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City where she substitute taught in the Libby Tyner Sunday School Class. She volunteered her services in church organizations as well as for the Garden City Water Department. In addition to being employed at the Singer Sewing Machine Company for 19 years, Mrs. Williams had a home-based monogramming business. Her love of flowers, particularly the day lilies she shared with her many friends, was a subject of which Mrs. Williams never tired. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by Mr. Williams and son, John C. Williams. Survivors include daughter, Mary Trest of Jackson, MS; daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Jim Wood of Arlington, TX and Brenda and Lee Hatcher of Valdosta; sister, Mamie Lou Romedy of Fernandina Beach, FL; grandchildren, Perry (Rocio) Trest, Lee Trest, Elizabeth Trest, Suzanne Trest, Neal (Vicki) Wood, Janet Wood (Randy) Wyman, Trey (Angela) Hatcher, Liane Hatcher (Fred) Register, Lynn Williams (Tom) Hentges, Andrea Williams and Donna Williams Hathaway; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5:30- 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 22 at Massey-Framke Funeral Care in Garden City. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 23 at the First Baptist Church of Garden City. Rev. Ken Sharpe officiating. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Bay Branch Baptist Church in Sylvania in the family burial plot.
