Sister Mary Genevieve Flanagan, OSU, died on Sunday morning, January 14, 2001 at the Ursuline Marian Residence, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. She was 93 years old. Sister Genevieve was born in the Bronx, May 10, 1907. She was the oldest of 11 children born to Martin J. and Catherine Hollander Flanagan. Sister Genevieve graduated from St. Jerome's School in the Bronx and received a business certificate from L&T in New York City. She entered the Ursuline Sisters on September 8, 1926 and on July 10, 1929 made her Profession of Vows at the Ursuline Novitiate in Beacon, NY. From the time of her Porfession in 1929 until 1960, sister Genevieve assisted in the business office at the Ursuline Convent, Bedford Park, Bronx, NY. In 1960, she moved to the Convent of St. Ursula in New Rochelle where she served as assistant treasurer until her retirement in 1990. In addition to her work in the treasurer's office, Sr. Genevieve was an expert seamstress and could often be found at the sewing maching. Sister Genevieve is survived by one brother, Lawrence Flanagan of Waldwick and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Martin and Catherine, her sisters Anna, Kitty, Adelaide , and Loretta and her brothers, Francis, Emmanuel, Martin, Edward, and Thomas. Visiting hours will be held at the Ursuline Marian Residence, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 from 3-5 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 in the Convent chapel.
