Sister Catherine Patricia Brennan, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY. Born in St. Louis, MO on January 16, 1913, Ann Brennan was the daughter of Catherine and Patrick Brennan. Ann entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on July 2, 1932 and became known as Sister Catherine Patricia, professing her first vows in 1934 and her final vows in 1939. Sister Catherine Patricia earned a BA in English from Fontbonne University in 1949 and an MA in Business Education from Columbia University in 1952. During her professional life, Sister Catherine Patricia taught in the Archdiocese of New York in St. Brendan School (1943-44), Thorpe Secretarial School (1950-57) and Albertus Magnus High School (1970-73) where she also served as Assistant Principal. She taught in the Diocese of St. Louis in St. Mark's Elementary School (1936-43), St. James School (1944-50), and St. Dominic High School (1973-83). She served as Principal of St. Thomas More School (1957-63), St. Mary Magdalene School (1963-69) and Holy Redeemer School (1969-70). She also taught in St. Mary School in Fulton, NY in the diocese of Syracuse. Upon retiring from full-time teaching and administration, she volunteered at Epiphany School in St. Louis, MO from 1983-1991. Upon returning to Dominican Convent in Sparkill, she assisted in the Finance Office from 1991-1997. Sister Catherine Patricia is survived by her sister-in-law, Kate Brennan, her nieces Sister Sheila Brennan, OP, Mary Ellen Hayes, Virginia Bass, Mary Meihaus, and Nancy Gillon, her nephews, Patrick Brennan, William Johnson and John Johnson, and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Dominican Convent, Sparkill, NY, on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Visitation is on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 3:30 to 8:00 at the Convent, 175 Rte. 340, Sparkill, NY. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
