Avis de décès de S. -Lee Carter

S. Lee Carter, of Santa Fe New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home on October 6, 2010, surrounded by loved ones. This ‘Jersey Girl’, born Sharon Lee, crowned New Jersey Farm Bureau Queen of 1976, found her home and her hearts desire when she moved to Santa Fe in 1995. Lee had the soul of an artist and she surrounded herself in beauty. She lived in a world of color - sage greens, burnt orange, teal. Her heart sang when she tasted good food - Sage bread, sushi, tamales. Lee created her home, her gardens, pottery, friendships, and her life. In recent years, micaceaous clay pottery was her art medium of choice. Lee loved to garden and each morning would find her carefully tending her beautiful backyard garden. As Lee made a life for herself in sunny Santa Fe, she worked in many capacities: catering at the Governor’s Mansion, assisting many people and businesses with her gifts and skills. Lee came from many generations of Quakers, and this was part of her spiritual life. She was deeply loyal to those she loved and tended to all her relationships with a rare degree of integrity. Lee graduated from Westtown, a Quaker High School, in 1976. She later completed her Bachelor’s Degree from Norwich University - Vermont College in 1993. Lee was preceded in death by her father, Carlton Carter. Lee is survived by her precious cat Lizzie, her mother, Charlotte Carter of Minnesota, sisters Anita (Ted) Winpenny of Connecticut and Florida, June (Greg) Amundson of Minnesota, nephew and niece Erik and Dana Amundson of Minnesota, goddaughter Eliza Navias-Bell of Massachusetts, dear friend Susan Greenler of Wisconsin, and many other loved ones. A memorial service will be held at Quaker House, 1730 Camino Carlos Rey North, #209 at 2 pm on Saturday, October 23; a celebration of Lee’s life will follow at Lee’s home, 1616 Calle de Oriente Norte. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Coming Home Connection, Inc. of Santa Fe or Santa Fe Friends Meeting. At last I shall give myself to the desert again - that I, in its golden dust may be blown from a barren peak broadcast over the sun-lands. Maynard Dixon.
