LEE Ruth Womble Lee, the wife of the late Laurence F. Lee, Jr., 56, died peacefully at 7:30 am, at the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida Hadlow Center, Thursday, November 20, 2003. She was 75. Ruth Lee was the daughter of Bunyan Snipes & Edith Willingham Womble of Winston-Salem, N.C. Ruth grew up in Winston-Salem with her two brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Summit School and Salem Academy during which time she was an accomplished equestrian winning many ribbons. While attending Duke University she met and married her late husband Laurence F. Lee, Jr. Larry and Ruth moved to Jacksonville where they lived happily raising their four children at their home on Holly Point in Orange Park, Florida. Ruth traveled extensively world wide partnering with Larry contributing greatly to the successful building of British American Insurance Company of Nassau, Bahamas and Peninsular Life Insurance Company of Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Lee was a long time member of the Junior League, The Colonial Dames, the Jacksonville Garden Club, Alpha Delta Pi, Soriety and the Embroidery Club of Winston-Salem. She served as a board member of Jacksonville Episcopal High School. She is survived and will be missed by her sister Lila Jenkins, brothers Bill Womble and Calder Womble of Winston- Salem, NC and her sister Edith Chatham of Pinehurst, NC; her children and their spouses, Laurence F. Lee III and Sally of Jacksonville, Bunny McLean and Jeremy of Montebello, Quebec, Canada, Ruth Gudaitis, and Charles of Toronto, Canada, and Mille Baldwin, of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her grandchildren include Laurence, Whitney and her husband Jason, Ann, and Ted Lee, Merritt, Marron, and Ian McLean, Valerie, and Edie Gudaitis, and Lee, Katharine, and Cecilia Baldwin. A memorial service will be held in St. Marks Episcopal Church 4129 Oxford Avenue (Ortega Boulevard) at 1:00PM on Monday, November 24th.
