Avis de décès de Ruth-Walker Hill

WESTBROOK - Ruth Walker Hill, 92, passed away on Oct. 5, 2012, at the Springbrook Center nursing home. She was born in West Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School, Gorham Normal School and the University of Maine at Gorham. She taught school in Raleigh, Mass., before marrying her college sweetheart, Owen F. (Hoot) Hill, in 1943. They honeymooned in New York City, flying there in an airplane with blackout curtains because of the war. Ruth moved many times as a result of her husband's military assignments, his post graduate studies after the war and his career as a school business administrator. She made wonderful homes for her family in Maine, Connecticut, Washington, New York and Indiana. In retirement Ruth and Hoot splittheir time between her family's farm in North Berwick and Florida. They worked together restoring their 1832 farmhouse and enjoyed many travels in the United States and abroad before Hoot's death in 2007. Ruth was always generous with her time and volunteered in many organizations and as an enrichment teacher for disadvantaged children. She was an officer of the Y.W.C.A. in New Britain, Conn., and in the Congregational Church Women's Club in Manhasset, N.Y. She was a member of two P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) chapters: AW, Manhasset, N.Y., and E. Kennebunk, and she belonged to the Philomath Club, the Historical Society and the First Congregational Church in North Berwick. She enjoyed cooking, painting, stenciling, sewing, quilting and antiquing. Most of all she loved her family and was known by all who knew her for her extremely kind and caring heart. She is survived by her daughter Linda Hill O'Bannon and son-in-law Kenneth O'Bannon of Dumfries, Va., son Hugh Hill, daughter-in-law Nancy Mabon Hill and grandson Owen Thomas Hill of Portland; her sister-in-law Norma Walker Allen of West Gorham; and many nieces, nephews; grandnieces, grandnephews; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 5-7 p.m., at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Karen Christensen will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Buxton (Tory Hill Meetinghouse). Burial will follow in South Buxton Cemetery, beside her husband. www.DCPate.com.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to:The First Congregational Church of Buxton (Tory Hill Meetinghouse)P.O.
