Ruth Blackwell Smith, 97, formerly of Greer, widow of Roscoe Smith, died Nov. 9, 2005, at Oakmont East Nursing Center.A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Robert R. and Cecilia Gosnell Blackwell, she was a retired textile employee of Apalache Mill and was a member of Greer Church of God.Surviving are a daughter, Doris Hindman of Travelers Rest; a son, Bobby Smith of Cross Hill; a brother, Eldridge Blackwell of Greer; six sisters, Alaree Armstrong and Maggie Armstrong, both of Greenville, Iva Wood of Blue Ridge, Tennie Scroggs of Greenville, and Hilda Morris and Frances Stewart, both of Greer; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.Mrs. Smith was predeceased by four brothers, Woodrow Blackwell, Virgil Blackwell, Durham Blackwell, and Grover Blackwell; and a sister, Bertha B. Lance Anders.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Greer Church of God, conducted by Rev. Leon Parker and Rev. Bobby Duncan. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Wood Mortuary.The family is at the home of her daughter, Doris Hindman, 428 Hindman Road, Travelers Rest.
