Ruth Childs Ross 1927 - 2011 Manchester, VT Ruth Childs Ross, 84, a resident of Highland Avenue in Manchester, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Ruth was born on Feb. 4, 1927, in Perkinsville, the ninth of 11 children, to Horace Z. and Mary (Cady) Childs. She graduated from Springfield, Vt., High School. Mrs. Ross came to Manchester in the 1950's and worked as a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company into the early 1960's. It was while working as an operator that she met her husband, Nelson Donald Ross. They were married on Oct. 26, 1963, and made their home in Manchester. Together, they enjoyed camping and vacationing in Vermont and Maine. Later in life, they enjoyed going on nice long car rides. Mr. Ross died on April 16, 2008. She is survived by her son, Patrick Jay Ross of Manchester and her sister, Janice Pallotta of Rutland. She was predeceased by all seven of her brothers, two sisters and her son Russell F. Ross, who died on Oct. 9, 2008. Her son Patrick wishes to extend his most heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and aides at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation and the Visiting Nurses Association of Manchester Health Services and also Dr. Keith Michl for the wonderful care they provided her the last two years. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Friday May 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. at BREWSTER FUNERAL SERVICE, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, May 27, 2011, from 12-1 p.m. one hour prior to the service.
