SARATOGA SPRINGS Ruth (Hamill) Mitchell, formerly of Jefferson Terrace, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy. She was 81. Born on November 16, 1924 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John and Grace (Weatherwax) Hamill and was a lifelong resident. She attended the local city school system, was a housekeeper at the Saratoga Springs Holiday Inn and was employed there when the hotel celebrated its grand opening in 1964. She later was employed for 21 years in the housekeeping department at Skidmore College, retiring in 1986. While there, she proudly walked the picket lines, which ultimately led to the college employees becoming unionized. Survivors include her children, Thomas W. (Linda) Mitchell Sr. of Gansevoort, Donald A. (Carrol) Mitchell of Saratoga Springs and Linda C. (Andrew) Procak of Newtonville; her grandchildren, Thomas W. (Sarah) Mitchell Jr., Stacey (Michael) Schaffer, Darci (Ted) Palmisciano, Jennelle and Cody Teague; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Sally Cogan and her brother, John (Marge) Hamill, all of Saratoga Springs; and several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor, especially Unit A-2, for the excellent care and support provided to Ruthie. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373).
