Ruth M. Wright, 94CUMBERLAND – Ruth M. Wright, 94, passed away on Jan. 23, 2015. She was born in Portland, on Dec. 3, 1920, to Frank and Mary (Gill) Devine of South Portland. She came from an Irish family of seven sisters and one brother. She was predeceased by her husband, Merritt O. Wright (CW04 USCG Ret.) in 1996. After her husband passed away, she worked tirelessly in the garden until she developed macular degeneration. Even with that, she continued for several more years. If you needed something out of the garden, it was yours. Survivors include her son, Merritt Wright and his wife Linda of Cumberland, daughter, Joyce St. Pierre and George Nemeth of Harwich, Mass.; grandchildren, Sam Wright of Portland, Gary Wright of Cumberland, Allen St. Pierre of Washington, D.C., Paula St. Pierre of Chatham, Mass., Shanon St. Pierre of Chatham, Mass. Ruth had seven great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Surviving sisters: Rita Preson of South Portland, and Alice Bothel of Cape Elizabeth. Upon Ruth's wishes, there will be no observance or service. She will be cremated and interred beside her husband in the Veterans' Cemetery in Augusta, at a later date. Her family would like to thank David and Karen Landa of Ledgeview Assisted Living in Cumberland and their dedicated staff for the care they provided her while she resided there.
