Ruth Lee, née en 1918, est décédée.
LEE, Ruth Margaret (nee Whitehead) Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Nov. 2, 1918. Passed away at home Oct. 19, 2009 in the presence of her sons and daughter. Our remarkable mother has now set sail for Byzantium to join our father, A. Richard Lee, who set forth Jan. 21, 1995. Loving mother of Philip (Dolores) Edmonton; Ian (Lynn) Ottawa; Geoffrey (Madonna) Thunder Bay; Alison (Robert) Tucson, AZ. Proud Grandmother of Jarrett, Michelle, Kyle, Dominique, Claire, Rachel, Grace, Alexandra, Sebastian, Alistair and great grandmother of Austin, Lauren, Ryan and Christian. Predeceased by father Hiram, mother Annie Alma (nee Andrews), brother Frank and sister Mary. Our mother was born at the very end of the first world war, came of age in the Prairie dust bowl of the Depression, graduating first in her final year in all Saskatchewan, becoming the only female Manager at Sears before and during the war. After WWII, mother met and married our father who emigrated to Canada after RAF demobilization. With the cold war, father joined the RCAF as a fighter pilot flying F-86s and later F-104s, and was posted to NATO bases in Germany and France travelling all over Europe. Their love of travel continued across Canada, the US and back to Europe, throughout their entire lives. Mother with her backbone of steel, never forgot her Scottish highland values of discipline, independence and sacrifice. She was passionate about her children and grandchildren, ironically telling us that "as we become older, we become prisoners of our children". In turn, we were in awe that even at the end of her very long life, she never lost her intense curiosity, indomitable spirit and unyielding will, that left an indelible impression on anyone who met her. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Friday from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of this incredibly strong woman will be held in the Chapel on Saturday at 1 pm. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. A very special thanks to Dr. Mary Comerton and the palliative home care nurses Eileen McGuire and Ann Hunter. Donations to "At-Home Hospice, Ottawa" ( www.athomehospice.com ) or flowers are gratefully accepted.
