Ruth J. (Jowders) Foster, 85, of Westminster, Mass., and St. Augustine, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the Highlands in Fitchburg, Mass., after an illness.She was the wife of 63 years to the late Ralph S. "Sarge" Foster who died March 30, 2006.Ruth leaves one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Elizabeth "Beth" Foster of Westminster; four grandchildren, Amy R. Irizarry and her husband Norberto, of St. Augustine, Donald S. "Jay" Foster II of Westminster, Julie H. Foster of St. Augustine, and Christopher Foster of Westminster; one great-granddaughter, Emily R. Irizarry of St. Augustine; and several nieces and nephews.She was born in Fitchburg, on March 11, 1921, a daughter of the late Leon Furbush and Frances G. (Ruth) Jowders. She was a member of the Lunenburg High School Class of 1939. She was also a graduate of Sargent College at Boston University in Cambridge, with a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1942. Mrs. Foster was a co-owner of the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster along with her husband. She was instrumental in the starting of the Old Mill Restaurant and the Westminster Village Inn, now known as the Wachusett Village Inn. She developed many of the original recipes used at the Old Mill Restaurant that are still used today. She was a great high school basketball player, and a collector of pewter and lamps. She was an avid Celtics Fan. Ruth enjoyed swimming, basketball and reading. She also served on the Westminster School Committee for several years.A graveside service will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knower Road, Westminster, on Tuesday June 6, 2006, at 11:15 a.m.A calling hour will be held in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, (www.masciarellifamily funeralhomes.net), 123 Main Street, Westminster on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, from 10-11 a.m.In Lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to either the Westminster Historical Society, P.O.
