Ruth Ison Howell, 89, New Castle, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at her residence. Mrs. Howell retired from the State Hospital after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Shriners, White Star of Jerusalem and Esther Shrine 14. She had resided in Henry County since 1949. Born Oct. 30, 1919, in Letcher County, Ky., she was the daughter of John D. and Virgie Lee Gilley Ison, both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Jackie D. Howell, Cadiz; six grandsons, Terry and Gary Greathouse and Tony, Troy, Jim and Jeff Howell; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne and Willie D. Ison, both of Freetown, and Gaye Ison, Columbus; and a sister, Deola (Elmo) Day, Whitesburg, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howell; daughter, Angelina Greathouse; son, Kermit Eugene Howell; brothers, Bobby, Marion, Jack and Bill Ison; and sisters, Geniece Day and Ruby Frances. The Rev. Gene Bennett will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
