SAYER, Ruth Elizabeth (nee Foster) - August 17, 1925 - December 24, 2008. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother Ruth Elizabeth (nee Foster). She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jim, daughter Rosemary Benedetti (John), Burnaby, B.C., and sons Bill (Laurie), Renton, WA, and Robert (Linda), Coquitlam, B.C., and sister Sheila Barker (Bill) of Joliet, IL. She is survived by nine loving grandchildren: Michael and Amanda Benedetti, Jonathan, Michael and Elizabeth Sayer, Steven, Mark, Shannon and Theresa Sayer. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Audrey Sayer of North Bay, Ont. She was predeceased by her dear son, Michael (1971). Mom was born in North Bay, Ontario the fourth daughter of William and Irene Foster. She attended St. Joseph's Girls College in North Bay and graduated from the St. Michael's Hospital School of Nursing (Toronto) in 1948. After leaving North Bay in 1963, Mom gave up her nursing career to concentrate on her family. Mom followed Dad across Canada and Indonesia during his 47-year career with the Canadian Pacific Railway in North Bay, Montreal, Vancouver, Bandung, Toronto and Calgary. Mom was an active golfer, bowler and bridge player. After retirement they moved back to the Vancouver area where they were long time members of the Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen. Mom enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and the love of her life, her husband Jim. During the last couple of difficult years for her, Dad cared for her every need constantly being there and always ensuring that she was at the centre of every family gathering. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Dec. 30, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, B.C., with a reception to follow at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn on 56th Street. In lieu of flowers the family respectively suggests that you make a donation in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to a charity of your choice.
