ELLSWORTH - Ruth Carter, 94, went to be with the Lord Oct. 29, 2008, at her residence. She was born June 29, 1914, in Surry, the daughter of the late Henry and Flora (Gray) Black. Ruth's family was the most important thing in her life. She will be remembered as a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a nurturer and an extremely hard worker. Ruth loved to cook and feed her family and would always be prepared to feed anyone that was stopping by her home. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. Ruth is survived by her husband of 77 years, Cecil G. Carter; children, Rosalie Brown of Gardiner, R. Paul Carter and wife, Marilyn, of Verona Island and George A. Carter and partner, Dotti, of Seal Cove; grandchildren, Richard and wife, Karen, Rosemarie, Reggie and wife, Nancy, Larry, Allyson and husband, Larry, Lori, Andrea and husband, Anthony, and Mark and wife, Elisa; great-grandchildren, Ricky, Justin, Adam, Danny, Jeremy, Melissa, Sarah, Larry Jr., Andrew, Rachel and Christopher; great-great-granddaughter, Aaliyah; special niece, Velma Maddocks, who was like a sister to Ruth; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lester, Harvey, Rose, Walter, Grace and Clarence; and son-in-law, Richard Brown. Visiting hours will be held 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Burial will be private. www.bragdonkelley.com
