Ruth Cruse Brock Ruth Cruse Brock, 77, devoted mother and compassionate friend to any person or pet needing a warm hug from a nurturing soul, passed away on January 10, 2010. She will be missed by many, but especially by her surviving children Laura and Caleb Brock, both of Tallahassee. She is also survived by her siblings Shirley Birkett of Dallas, Texas; Luana Barnard of Denver, Colorado; and Joseph Cruse (Sharon), founding medical director of the Betty Ford Center, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.Born in Oak Creek, Colorado, Ruth was a pioneer who overcame many difficulties while maintaining a sense of humor that could not be extinguished. She had a rich and interesting life sowing seeds of kindness in many different fields. In her youth, Ruth held the prestigious role as the State of Colorado Grand Worthy Advisor in the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. One of her greatest adventures was when she sold all worldly possessions and loaded up a panel truck, leaving the comfort of her home filled with bridge parties and morning exercise with Jack LaLanne, to follow her husband who decided to become a part of a traveling carnival. Later Ruth became an educator, teaching children in Lake Tahoe, California and St. Cloud, Florida. She worked for Boise Cascade in Orlando, Florida and Gary, Indiana for many years. Ruth's passion for children and those in need brought her to the Florida Department of Children and Families, where she served with distinction as an accountant until her retirement. Ruth will be remembered with fondness for her generosity, dependability, tender heart, and unconditional love.Speaking of love, Ruth loved all things relating to Peanuts, which explains the significant collection of Snoopy items that filled her home. She would be most pleased to know that her tribute included a quote from Charlie Brown, which perfectly described the way Ruth lived her life: "Happiness is anyone and anything that's loved by you." There will be a private family service at a later date.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Big Bend Hospice (1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, 32308) or a charity of your choice. Today, please show a special act of kindness to another soul in Ruth's honor. It is just the way she would want to be remembered. Arrangements were handled by Culley's Riggins Road Funeral Home (850-877-8191).
