TUSCALOOSA Ruth Cecilia Blake Howell, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, passed away Dec. 9, 2011. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Albert Lyles, Bro. Michael Powell, Bro. Herbert Davis, and Bro. Jim Hedley officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Woods Cemetery with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church, where Mrs. Howell was a member.Mrs. Ruth Howell worked and retired from Druid City Hospital for 21 years.Mrs. Howell was born Feb. 27, 1921, in West Blocton, “Lowry Town” Ala. to John Henry and Della Daniel Blake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus Patton Howell, Sr.; daughter, Patricia Howell; eight sisters; and three brothers.Survivors include her sons, Cyrus Patton Howell, Jr. (Vera Ruth) of Tuscaloosa, Glenn Michael Howell (Margaret) of Reform, and Alvin Keith Howell (Robin) of Tuscaloosa; and daughter, Phyllis (Cecilia) Malatino (Tony) of Lakeland, Fla. Ruth had 10 grandchildren, Michael Alan Howell (Dometa), Dr. Cyrus Patton Howell, III (Jennifer), Kimberly Leona Walters (Greg), Jeffery Howell, Annette Knowles (Abe), Patricia Malatino, Christie Henn (Dan), Josh Howell (Melissa), Amanda Hall (Brad), and Jennifer Cook (Greg). Ruth had 14 great-grandchildren, Dylan Howell, Darren Carter, Ashley Walters, Nicholas Walters, Landon Walters, Hannah Howell, Matthew Howell, Laura Elizabeth Howell, Alexander Knowles, Rachel Knowles, Matthew Scarborough, Jeramey Scarborough, Alexa Henn, and Brooke Henn. Ruth had four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.Pallbearers will be Michael Howell, Dr. Cyrus Patton Howell, III, Dylan Howell, Greg Walters, Kenneth West, Dan Henn, Marty Simpson, and Doug Howell.Honorary pallbearers are Piney Grove Baptist Church, Ridgecrest Baptist Church and both Sunday School classes, Alacare, Brenda West, Margaret Blake, Judy Shirley, Johnny and Nan Grammer, Martha Powell, Dot Davis, Ron Wilson, Hospice of West Alabama, Bud and Maude Howell family and a “special thanks” to granddaughter, Kimberly (Howell) Walters and husband Greg and great-grandchildren Ashley, Nicholas, and Landon Walters and Dylan Howell. They cared and loved their “Mee Maw” at all times. Ruth looked forward to seeing them everyday.
