Ruth M. Carter, 95, of 601 W. South Broad St., Walhalla, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her residence.A native of Oconee County, Miss Carter was the daughter of the late Ralph C. and Orianna Walker Carter. Miss Carter was a graduate of Winthrop College and was a retired business woman. She worked for the War Department in Atlanta, Ga., during World War II. Miss Carter was the oldest member in membership of Walhalla Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Nettie Long Circle.Survivors include a sister, Anne M. Carter, of Walhalla; and nieces, Sylvia Carter Rumer, Annadell Carter and Carol Carter Silsby. In addition to her parents, brothers, R.C. Carter and C.W. Carter, predeceased Miss Carter.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at West View Cemetery.There will be no formal visitation.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nettie Long Circle, c/o Walhalla Presbyterian Church, 600 E. Main St., Walhalla, SC 29691.The family is at the residence.
