TROY Ruth Brownlee Johnson, Ph.D., formerly of Loudonville, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy. Ruth had resided in the Capital District since 1964, having come to this area to serve as a professor at the College of Saint Rose, Albany, N.Y. While at St. Rose, Dr. Johnson was appointed chairman of the education department. In 1979, she retired as professor emeritus from the college. Dr. Johnson held a bachelor's degree from State University of Orangeburg, S.C. and master's and doctorate degrees from Fordham University, N.Y. Before coming to the College of Saint Rose, she had taught elementary and junior high school in the New York City Systems, specifically in Jamaica, N.Y. as well as in the elementary schools of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She taught part-time at the University of Buffalo, now the State University of New York at Buffalo. She was a member of numerous professional organizations, a member of Delta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma International and Vanguard-Albany Symphony. Survivors include two nephews, one niece, a goddaughter and several cherished friends. Friends are invited to call at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Avenue, Albany on Wednesday, August 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose's Church in Latham. Interment, Memory's Garden, Colonie.
