BLAINE - Ruth Bell Smith, 88, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, 2011, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born June 11, 1923, in Mars Hill, daughter of Clarence and Edith (Bragdon) Bell. Ruth resided in Bridgewater for more than 47 years where she was a homemaker and partner in farming with her husband, Alton. As an active member of Bridgewater Baptist Church, Ruth sang in their choir for many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading and socializing with family and friends. In 1988, Alton and Ruth moved to Blaine. Her generous heart and fun loving spirit will be greatly missed. Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Alton T. Smith of Blaine; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and William McLeod of Quincy, Mass.; two granddaughters, Heather McDonough of Quincy, Mass., and Holly McDonough of Broomfield, Colo.; a very dear brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Marilyn Bell of Mars Hill; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Alma Smith of Mars Hill; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Clinton and Philip Bell. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Bridgewater Baptist Church with her nephew, Pastor Richard Bell officiating. Friends may call noon until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater. Contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to The Michael J.
