Ruth B. Nelson, 102, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born Annie Ruth Bradford on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1906, in Montgomery, Ala., the daughter of Lyman and Mary (Slauson) Bradford. She married Claude Rupert Nelson on April 14, 1934, in Montgomery, Ala. Ruth graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Ala., and also attended a local business college, working as a secretary before her marriage. She was a longtime resident of Springfield, Mo., where she volunteered and taught at First Baptist Church. A resident of DeKalb, Ill., since 1973, she attended and volunteered at First Baptist Church in DeKalb as well as volunteering at The Country Store in DeKalb for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Joye Nelson of DeKalb, Ill. and Martha (Martin) Bezek of St. Charles, Ill.; three grandchildren, Amy (Greg) Lepore of Saline, Mich., Anne Bezek of Palatine, Ill., and Evan Bezek of Palatine, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Noah Lepore of Saline, Mich.; one sister, Margaret (Donald) Parker of Montgomery, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Claude Rupert Nelson; her parents; and her brothers, L.S. and Ernest Bradford. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 22, 2009, at 11 a.m., in Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South 4th Street, in DeKalb, Ill., with Rev. Joe Sanders of First Baptist Church in DeKalb officiating. Burial will follow services in Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Friday, in the funeral home.
