DAVIS, RUTH ANN After living a full and rich 97 years, Ruth Ann Davis of Gainesville passed away at home surrounded by her loving children on July 26, 2007. Born in 1910, Ruth Davis grew up in northern New Jersey and attended Columbia University where she met her husband Jack to whom she was married for fifty-four years. She worked for many years as an administrative secretary for the Teterboro School of Aeronautics. Upon retirement, they moved to Merritt Island, Florida where they enjoyed an active life for twenty years. They moved to Gainesville in 1986 to be nearer to their sons. Upon her husband's death, Ruth attended Santa Fe Community College and became the school's oldest graduate when she was 86. As a life long learner, she studied music, Braille, chess, and poetry. She also loved the company of her dogs, Belle and Beau. Time spent with her family was always the most important part of her life. Many of those times were spent on cross-country camping trips with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting her West Coast relatives in California and Alaska. When she was ninety, her sons took her on a trip to Norway to discover her roots, and at ninety-five she journeyed to Irelandwith her daughter's family. Ruth was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville where, along with her husband, she was a founder of the Venture Club. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Fracareta of Foster, RI; her two sons John T. Davis and Thomas W. Davis both of Gainesville: six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at 3 P.M. on Sunday, July 29th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
