ATHOL -- Ruth A. (Fitzpatrick) Smith, 95, of Athol, died Saturday, Feb. 21, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare. She was born on June 1, 1908, in Fitchburg, the daughter of Joseph and Bridget (O’Connor) Fitzpatrick. She grew up in Fitchburg and graduated from Fitchburg High School. She attended the former Fitchburg Normal School where she graduated with a degree in teaching. Mrs. Smith was an elementary school teacher in Vermont for five years. A resident of Athol for over 66 years, Mrs. Smith was the purchasing agent and supervisor of Central Supply at Athol Memorial Hospital for 23 years, she retired in 1975. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, arts and crafts. Mrs. Smith leaves a daughter, Binnie A. Duval and her husband Don of Pittsford, N.Y.; a son, Norman Smith and his wife Rose of Great Falls, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces. SMITH -- On Feb. 21, Ruth A. (Fitzpatrick) Smith, 95, of Athol. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation ARmy, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol, MA 01331. Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.
