DERRY -- Russell P. Williams, 83, died May 30, 2009. He was born in Somerville, Mass., June 7, 1925, to Samuel and Beulah Barter Williams. He was raised in Somerville and spent his summers with family on Barters Island in Maine. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He married the love of his life, Nellie, Sept. 26, 1947. They lived in Wilmington, Mass., for 29 years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and swimming at Silver Lake. He completed construction on his dream home in Chester in 1984 and soon after retired from Raytheon, where he had worked for 33 years. He was then able to devote more time to feeding the wild birds, gardening, woodworking, and enjoying grandchildren. He was a kind-hearted soul who many will remember for his bow-tie dollar bills that he would fold and give away. He worked hard throughout his life and strived to better himself each day. Family members include his wife, Nell Williams; three sons, Allen Williams of Fort Bridger, Wyo., Garry Williams of Raymond, and Keith Williams of Bastrop, Texas; a brother, Alan Williams of Harpswell, Maine; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna; grandson, Mark; and great-granddaughter, Liliana. SERVICES: No services will be held. In celebration of his life, an open house will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. Arrangements are under the direction of Peabody Funeral Home, Derry.
