Ruby Pearl Straley Cruse Hill, 101, of Mt. Sherman, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Colonial Healthcare Center in Bardstown. Ruby was a devoted mother, step-mother and aunt to her loved ones left behind. An unconventional woman for any era, Ruby marveled at the progression of her start in life with horse drawn buggies to space shuttle liftoffs. Ruby's sharp mind and keen wit were ever present. Her many life's interests included nursing, playing piano in church, world events, politics, homemaking and her commitment to the family homestead, where she cared for two of her brothers, Wayne and Floyd until their deaths. A founding family member of Mount Moriah Church in Mount Sherman, Ruby continued ties to her friends and community until her passing. She often expressed her gratitude at having been blessed with more than a century of dear friends and extended family who enriched her life. Ruby was preceded by the tragic death of her son John Thomas "J.T." Hill in 1955; her parents, Jesse and Daisy Etta Floyd Hill; two sisters, Lily Francis Hill and Edna (A.J.) Wathen; three brothers, Wayne, Floyd and Ernest Luther Hill; and two former husbands, William Leo "Rooster" Straley and Paul Cruse. She is survived by her nieces, Janet (Bruce Whitehead) Hill and Lee Ann (Modesto) del Castillo; her beloved extended paternal great nephews and family led by Jerry and Sabrina Hill; and her devoted step-children Douglas Cruse, Sharon Hornback, Laura Ann Anthony, Hope Conatser and Bobby (Peggy) Cruse; and a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with the Rev. Shannon McCubbins and Lee Ann del Castillo officiating. Burial follows in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
