She was greatly loved by all who knew her. Ruby was a very optimistic person who could find the best in any situation, and she was known to cheer up anyone in her presence. Ruby was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Russell and Helen Jackson. She was married to Vernon Pressly of College Springs for 25 wonderful years and reared five children in Des Moines where she worked as a Realtor with Iowa Realty. In 1973, Ruby moved with three daughters to Sarasota, Fla., where she worked as a Realtor for Real Estate Showcase and Re/Max Properties. In 1975, Ruby married Bill Walker. Their union blended the lives of Ruby's five children and Bill's three sons. Bill and Ruby operated Walker Farm on Raymond Road in Sarasota for many years, notably providing hay to ranchers and livestock growers across Florida, in addition to producing their renowned variety of Florida "Stay Sweet" sweet corn. Many Sarasota residents and "out of State" customers were on the mailing list waiting in anticipation for Bill and Ruby's corn to ripen each year. Many Sarasota High School students and FFA members assisted in the harvest and will remember Ruby's homemade bread and renowned brownies she so enjoyed sharing will all she knew and loved. Bill and Ruby sold the farm and moved to North Carolina to be near family. It was Ruby's dream to live on a lake and they found a beautiful location on Lake Norman.
